First Flake [video]

[When the 'gear flicks on, the camera seems to be pointing at.... the ground. The ground, and a black-shoed foot. The camera shakes for a minute, and the voice of a young woman can be heard speaking.]

Is this strange device really meant to be used to communicate with others...? But how...

[It's then that a somewhat worried-looking Snorunt comes into view, its little arms raised. Whoever-it-was pauses before giving the device over to the creature. The camera then spins, and focuses on the owner of the voice; a pale, fair-haired young woman dressed in typical trainer clothes, looking very confused.]

I'm just not sure how I'm meant to-- [She's cut off by the Snorunt, who makes a few noises before moving closer and holding the pokegear up, getting a better view of the girl in the process. She sighs.] Okay... fine.

[She clears her throat and stands up straight, a rather regal-seeming posture for someone dressed in such casual clothes.] My name is Queen Elsa of Arendelle, and I'm afraid I've been kidnapped. I've been told that no, I really haven't been kidnapped, but... I can't exactly believe that, can I?

[Her brows furrow, then, and her shoulders seem to scrunch up a bit in a show of nervousness.] I need help. Information. If I can at least be told where exactly this "Johto" is, how far away I am from Arendelle... I would very much appreciate it. [She begins to wring her hands together, now clearly showing signs of someone who's deeply unsettled.] If there's any way at all to contact those back home... please... I need to know. My staff, my... my sister... they must be so worried....

[Her hands are now clenching each other tightly as she tries to calm herself, but it doesn't seem to be of any use. So, rather quickly, she approaches the Snorunt, taking the gear out of its hands and fumbling once more with it.] A-As I said, any help would be greatly appreciated. But for now, I'm afraid I must end this conversation. I apologize for how abrupt this is. G-Goodbye.

[Can't let them see, can't let them see--]

[Thankfully, she finds the right button to hit, and the screen goes dark.]

[Elsa's still worried, and a little confused at how Anna's laughing at her worry, but... she's going to trust Anna. If her sister says she's fine, then... Elsa will believe that. At least until they're able to meet in person. Then Elsa will fret until she can see for herself that Anna hasn't been hurt during her time here.]

I'm glad I'm able to make you feel better. [And Anna, in turn, makes Elsa feel a bit better about being trapped here as well.] Are you far away? I'd be much more at ease if we could speak more in person.

Well, since you just got here, I'm guessing you're in New Bark Town and you didn't take the ferry. But if you look a little to the west, you're gonna see a stretch of road, right? That's Route 29. It's basically just a straight path, but you're gonna have to walk through the grass because you can't go over the ledges. So you might have to battle a Pokemon or two, and I'll talk to you all about that in a second. But after a little while, you're gonna reach a town called Cherrygrove. I'm gonna meet you there and give you the biggest hug I can, okay? I know it doesn't seem like it's been that long since I last saw you, but...I really missed you, Elsa.

...By the way, your new friend is really cute. Did you give him a name?

... Battle? Is there any way to avoid it? [She looks down at her new friend - Snorunt - and frowns.] I don't think this one's cut out for fighting...

And um. No, I haven't given it a name yet. Do people usually do that?

Well, you can always run from a wild Pokemon, but if a trainer finds you, you won't be able to back out. Besides, he's not gonna grow any stronger that way. And if he looks like he's getting kinda weak, you can always use a Potion or feed him a Berry, and he'll heal up right away!

And you don't necessarily have to name him, but, it's something people usually do. A friend of mine told me not doing that would be kinda like calling a dog, well, "Dog".

Well that hardly sounds fair. Forcing people to fight you. [Ah, the downsides of mostly being a pacifist in the Pokemon world.]

Hm, we can't have that... [Elsa turns her device around, so that the camera is pointing at her Snorunt. It waves!] What do you think? Nothing's really coming to me right now, but I bet you'd have a good idea.

It's kind of a rule. Once you make eye contact, you have to battle. ...You get used to it, to be honest. But don't worry, it's not, like, a huge fight! They do it to grow, after all. And even if they lose the fight, you can take them to a Pokemon Center or use medicine and they'll be good as new! ...Of course, it's easier if you don't let them fight to the point where they faint. But you can have up to six of them with you at a time! And you can keep the rest in storage and use them whenever you want. I can't wait until you meet all of mine..! You'd really love all of them!

[Anna smiles at the Snorunt, waving right back!]

Hey there, cutie..! Hm...how about Eskimo? Or Frosty? Or maybe Snowball?

...Or Olaf?

[... The way this place works is just bizarre. And Elsa still looks pretty darn confused, but for now, she's not going to say anything. She'll just..... take it all in, and think more on it when she doesn't have a huge headache coming in.]

No, not Olaf. there's only one Olaf, after all. [And gosh she's gunna miss the little guy, but at least she knows that he'll be okay even with them gone.]

Snowball sounds good though. [She smiles, glancing at the Snorunt.] What do you think?

[The Snorunt makes a noise of approval, hopping up and down with a smile on its little black face. Elsa laughs.]

I guess that settles that. Good job, Anna.

Hey, if there's one thing I'm not too bad at, it's coming up with some pretty good names for my Pokemon! And you have a pretty good friend there with you, too. He's gonna be with you for a while, and you two are gonna look after each other pretty well, I know you are.

[Cute...]

I mean, you'll have me too, of course. I'll be here for you until the very end, obviously, if you'd like to travel together with me. After all, as long as we're stuck here and we don't have to worry about the kingdom or anything...well, the fact that we get to go on an adventure like this at all is going to be really something. I know it's kind of weird at first, but, this kind of life...I think you'll like it, Elsa.

"If I'd like to"? Anna, there's no way I wouldn't want to stick with you through this whole weird adventure. I mean, it's good to stick with someone familiar in a strange place... and we still have a lot of catching up to do, won't we?

I can't say this is my ideal way of making up for all those years, but... this gives us a chance to reconnect without any of our duties getting in the way. So... I guess this will be good for us, in a way.

[She looks a bit nervous then.] I'm not sure how well I'll do on this journey, though. I'm not exactly an outdoors-y type, after all...

You bet we do! I'm getting excited just thinking about it!

[She's about as thrilled as thrilled can be...if she was there, you could bet that she'd be clinging to Elsa like you wouldn't believe.]

And to be fair, when it comes to you, I'll take whatever I can get when it comes to spending time with you. It'll be great, just you wait and see! I can't wait until you get to meet all my friends and all my Pokemon, and you get some cute ones of your own and we'll get to do everything together and it'll be amazing!

As for that, though, I think you'll be okay! I mean, if I can do it, anyone can.

Friends, hmm? Anyone in particular I should know about?

[Anna's enthusiasm is definitely rubbing off on Elsa, and it's making her pretty eager to get to the next town and meet up with her sister.]

Oh, I wouldn't say that. Running around in a garden is at least a little more experience with being outside than I had.

Well, there's Cynthia, and she's a pegasus knight! She's a real hero and she beats up the bad guys and saves the day and everything! She's really cool! And then there's Shaun, and he's a really nice kid, but he has a lot of super strong Pokemon! He helped me a lot when I was first getting started. Chiaki too! And Ralph is also a pretty nice guy, even though he's super huge! There's also Ib, and she's a little girl who's kind of shy but she always tries her very best! And my friend Nonon, who's a little snarky but I think she's a good person. Um, who else, there's Twilight, and she's a genius! She's the one who told me all about this place when I was freaking out when I first came here...and Scar and Mr. Raikov! Kairi, too, and Riku!

[She makes a note of each one of those names. If she runs into them while on her way to meeting up with Anna, or if she winds up talking to them over this device, she'll have to thank them for looking out for her little sister when she couldn't.]

It sounds like you've made friends with quite an interesting bunch. I'm... really happy for you, Anna. It's good to see you finally be around other people.

There are so many different people here. It's...actually really nice, that I've met so many people. I had a travelling buddy too, but I think he was brought back home. He was a pretty nice guy, too, but he was a bit of a grouch, really.

You're gonna make a lot of friends too while you're here, though! I know you will! Most everyone here is pretty friendly, and I mean, it's not exactly like there's much not to like about you, really!

[Elsa laughs nervously at that.]

I don't know about that... you know how I am around people, Anna. I certainly won't have as many friends as you have now.

Oh, nonsense! I mean, with you not being in charge of the kingdom anymore, you'll have the chance to kinda get to socialize normally! I'm sure you'll meet plenty of friends!

... But I don't know how to socialize normally, Anna.

[Wow that is extremely embarrassing to admit.]

Small talk is one thing, that I can do. It was something I was taught how to do. But I'm not really sure how to go about making friends.

[Even in spite of that, Anna's smile doesn't falter. But it does become a bit more...gentle.]

It's okay, Elsa. After everything, I guess it's only natural that you have to start from step one, but...we'll just take it a day at a time, just like everything else, right? I'll help you make as many friends as you can, I promise.

You don't have to! Really, I... I don't want to bother you with something like that. Even if it's just us, I'll be fine.

It's not bothering me at all, Elsa! I mean, everyone needs friends, after all. And you of all people most certainly deserve them.

And besides, how often do we get to be, y'know, regular sisters? No duties or anything to get in the way, no big responsibilities...

... I don't think we've ever gotten a chance like that. Even when we were kids. Lessons got in the way a lot.
