Ninth Flake [text]

[This is new: a post from Elsa not in video. Normally she tries to use it as often as she can, since it helps her with talking to people without the intimidation of being face-to-face in person. But she's feeling kind of... not quite upset, but not like herself today. She'd rather not let that bleed into the video and audio, so for now, text it is.]

I just noticed the anniversary of a very important event in my life is almost here. The thing itself wasn't so bad - it was certainly something to celebrate at least - but the events that happened during and after it... they were more than a bit terrible.

[Yeah she's being kind of vague here. But only because she hasn't really told anyone about the whole "Eternal Winter" thing. And she's.... still somewhat afraid to. People know about what happened with Anna, yes, but if they knew she'd almost sentenced her entire kingdom to an eternal winter of suffering... would they act different towards her then?]

Even so, I... look back somewhat fondly on those days, despite the bad things that happened. Because even though bad things happened, a lot of good came out of it in the end.

Still... is that odd?

[Elsa flinches a little, but doesn't pull away. Her hands are still a very sensitive thing for her, even without her magic, but... with Anna, she doesn't mind at all.]

Yes, that's why I look fondly back on it too. If none of that happened, the gates might still be closed, and we might never have fixed our relationship. But even so...

What I did... the kingdom's curse... I can't imagine how many people that must have negatively affected.

Well, if the way the reacted after you thawed everything and whatnot is any indication, they seemed pretty quick to forgive you for it, so it couldn't have been that bad. I'm pretty sure everyone knows that you didn't do it on purpose.

But is that really how they felt? Were they only acting that way because the entire kingdom knows what I can do? What if they really are mad at me for the curse? I could have hurt a lot of farmers' incomes because of the sudden frost.

What if... [Her grip on her sister's hands tightens.] What if many of them are scared of me...?

[Anna doesn't mind squeezing Elsa's hands back, but she has a pretty good idea of how to respond to this one.]

If they were scared, you'd think they'd be a little more vocal about it. I mean, you saw everyone's faces when it first happened, right? They were scared then, because they didn't get it. You could see it in their eyes, y'know?

But when you used your powers in the courtyard, and you were ice skating with me, it was totally different! They didn't look afraid and they didn't look upset. Everyone was smiling and having fun, right? I don't think that was a lie. If it was, it'd be a pretty darn elaborate one to have everyone pretend to be happy there.

We live in a kingdom that has, like, some of the best subjects in the whole world, in my opinion. I'm not just saying that because they're ours, either! How do I put it...I think they're all very understanding people, and I think they're really happy to finally have a queen that's open with them now after so long, you know? People really love and respect you, not because they're scared of you but because you're a good queen who cares about her people.

Yes, I did see the fear in their eyes. Which is why I'm sure many of them are still scared. Fear like that.... you can't just get over it in a matter of days. You're fearing something that can hurt you, possibly kill you... that leaves an affect on people, even if they try to be happy later.

[Trust her, Anna. Elsa knows a lot about fear.]

You can't really expect everyone to feel the same way, can you?

That could be, but once they find out that their fear is unjustified, they take the steps to get over it, don't they? And I don't think that they're putting on an act for you. You'd know it if they were, I'm positive of it.

If there are some people who are still afraid, it might take them some time, yeah. But there are just as many people who know that you're not out to hurt them, and that you care about them and want them to be happy because you're their queen. No matter what, though, no one can say you're a bad person for that. I mean, they might've been scared, but you were scared, too, and I think everyone knows that, at least.

Fear spreads, though. It's like... I don't know, a cold. If one person is scared, the people around them can start to feel scared, even if they weren't before. Rumors spread, and unfounded worries can begin to spread as well.

I'm not saying the paranoia of a few people can cause our kingdom to collapse, it's just... [Elsa's gaze drops down to their hands.] I don't want people to feel like that. And it's impossible to keep track of how every single person in Arendelle is feeling.

I don't blame you for not wanting people to feel like that. I don't want anyone to think that about you, either! I mean, once they know you, they'll know you're the exact opposite of scary, and like I said, I'm pretty sure most people don't feel like that, even if I can't say with certainty that all of them don't. But they all will, one day, once you're on the throne for longer and you have more of a chance to show everyone how great you are! It's the kind of thing that'll get better with time, not worse. Fear can spread, but love can, too. And love's obviously the stronger of the two.

In any case, if the people are worried, we'll work and make sure they're taken care of. That's what a good queen does, right?

We, huh...?

[That alone is enough to calm Elsa's swirling thoughts a bit, and she can't help but smile.]

I'm glad you never gave up on that dream. Wanting to be my right hand, I mean.

[She shakes her head.]

I just... don't know how we can go about doing that. It's not like mama and papa taught me how to plan for things ending up like this.

What, you think I'm gonna let you run that whole kingdom by yourself? What kind of sister would I be if I left you stuck to deal with everyone like that on your own?

We'll have to figure it out and see what the state of things is when we get back. But I'm sure there's a lot we can do! As long as we keep them happy, things'll work out in the end.

... Not a bad one, because it's really not something a princess has to do. But you're still a wonderful sister for wanting to help.

[Wonderful. The best. The sister all other sisters should aspire to be!!]

Well, if things are exactly the same as when we left, then that will help us figure something out in the meantime, right?

[You give her way too much credit, Elsa..]

I just don't want you to have all that weight on your shoulders...still, I think you're right! Though it's kind of been so long that I sort of forget what sort of problems our people were having back home...

... Normally, I'd be worried with you saying that, but... wow. [Elsa laughs again, though this time it sounds more shocked than genuinely amused.] I keep forgetting that you've been here for so long. And it makes me realize that I've been here for a long time now, too.

... I hope that we'll be able to handle everything again, after all this time not worrying about our responsibilities...

You'll be a year in about a month and a half, right? We should do something for your Johtoversary!

[Is that a thing? We'll make it one if it's not!]

I'm sure we'll be fine! Ruling a kingdom is like riding a bike, I'm sure.

I arrived here at the beginning of September, so... yes, it'll be a little over a month from now.

[Geez, Anna, you can't just go around making up new words like that...]

I don't know... there's a big difference between a physical skill and something like ruling over an entire kingdom.

Well just because we don't have our responsibilities from back home doesn't mean we've forgotten how to make, like, crucial decision making skills and whatnot! We do that stuff here too! Okay, okay, wait, how about this, then? Ruling a kingdom is like a gym battle!

[... Okay, Elsa's laugh this time is back to its genuine sound.]

If we're judging it like that, shouldn't you be the queen now? I'm the one watching from the sideline in times like that!

[Thank goodness, because Anna's laughing, too!]

Yeah, but I'm sure you could do it too if you went up there and gave it a shot! You're way better at strategy than I am!

Still. You have the proof now, whereas I don't. Therefor, you're the better of the two of us right now.

You'll have to take that title from me then before we manage to get back home, or I might have to steal your crown...

Oh, I don't know... it would be interesting to see how you would rule Arendelle...

[Elsa looks like she's about to say something else, but quickly snaps her mouth shut before You'd probably be better than me! could come out. She's sure Anna wouldn't like that...]

The first thing I'd probably do is make every Friday into National "Give Queen Anna Chocolate Day," and then we'll take it from there...

Be careful, Anna. Demanding tribute from your subjects is usually the first sign of a benevolent ruler slowly sliding down the slope into malevolent behavior....

B-but it won't be bad if I share it, right?

I suppose it depends on who you're sharing it with. Your friends, or the people?
